Spyderco Military

Spyderco is known for taking risks, bucking conventional wisdom, and striving for the best knives ever, regardless of what they look like.

No knife embodies these qualities of Spyderco like the latest Badass Knife of the Week: the Spyderco Military G-10.

The Military, which is better known as the Millie to its legions of dedicated fans, was introduced in the early 90s and has since earned its place in the pantheon of important knives. We’ve given the knife quite a bit of attention. Not only did it make our list of most iconic Spyderco knives but it also made our list of most iconic knives ever. So it’s only fitting that the Millie is also a Badass Knife of the Week.

What sets the Military apart from the countless clones is the attention to detail and perfectly executed design. As one of the most mimicked knives ever, the Military still proves why it’s the best.

The Millie, which is the cornerstone of Spyderco’s Save and Serve lineup, boasts a 4-inch modified clip-point blade that features the iconic Spydie hole for ambidextrous opening and locks into place with a liner lock.

Although some of the early Military models came with ATS-34 and CPM 440V steel (and CPM-M4 during a special run in 2010), Spyderco has since updated the knife with CPM S30V stainless steel—a premium grade steel known for its high performance and edge retention.

In addition, the Millie has comfortable, ergonomically shaped G10 handle scales that make it possible to use the knife securely in any condition.

Little features like jimping on the spine of the blade, a flat grind, a pocket clip, and spacers between the handle scales add up to make this large folder irresistible.

So where did the Spyderco Military come from? Someone asked Spyderco founder and legendary knife designer Sal Glesser what type of folding knife he would give his son if he was going into the military. Without being able to give a satisfactory answer, Glesser designed the lightweight, high-performing Military. The knife world was never the same.
