Solid piece of stainless steel with full tang. The rubber grips are affixed with nuts which can come loose; some Loc-Tite fixes this. The blade takes an edge quite well but it is stainless steel and will dull easier than carbon. It's part of the trade-off between Stainless and Carbon though, so choose accordingly. The blade is thick and tapers toward the tip, and it isn't fragile: Solid keeps coming to mind every time I use it. I was concerned about using a Stainless Steel Machete, but this blade has changed my mind. I will try this for batoning wood to see if it really holds up. Great camping blade so far. I highly recommend it.
