The Long Reach Woodsman's tool did the trick. The sickle hook end help me get behind a vine and pull it away from the tree trunk. With a hardy yank the vine was cut into. If a vine was too large for the hooked end to make the cut, I just used the straight edge and WHACK... the vine was cut. The Long Reach felt good in my hand. It is well balanced and sharp. Nice tool.
