I purchased this $10.00 Valor knife just on a lark. When I received it, it sharpened paper cutting sharp much to my surprise. The heat treatment must have been very good due to the type of edge the knife took. I used a soft Arkansas stone and Marvels’ Mystery Oil as honing oil. It works very well and you can purchase it at any auto supply store. I had to sand the handles as they were somewhat rough. I then saddle soaped the sheath and mink oiled it. Now I have a very nice hunting knife which is paper cutting sharp! This would be a good knife to purchase for your son when you take him hunting with you. It’s not a toy but a very sharp and simple knife. It surprised the hell out of me (:
