Mantis MT-8 Siko – Badass Knife of the Week

Some people complain about how all knives are the same or how there’s never any thoughtfulness or innovation in the knife world. Those people have clearly never seen our latest Badass Knife of the Week from Mantis.

The Mantis MT-8 Siko is a knife like no other. Pronounced like “psycho,” the Siko is designed so that every minuscule detail has meaning and purpose, making this one of the most extraordinary combat knives on the market.

Starting at the top, the 4-inch blade is made from AUS8 stainless steel and has one of the most complex grinds on a production folder. Aside from the grind, one of the most notable features of the blade is the ramp on the spine, which is known as the Bramp.

The Bramp injects more functionality into the knife with a multipurpose design. It allows the user to open the blade on another person. For example, if you’re being attacked and only have one hand free, the Bramp with jimping catches onto the other person and engages. Alternatively, the Bramp acts as a hammer to break glass or offer protection without opening the blade. You can also use it for different cutting positions.

Frank has studied the fighting arts for several decades and has received countless awards for innovation and training in the martial arts. To say he knows a thing or two about close-quarters combat is an understatement.

Continuing down the MT-8 Siko, the textured handle is made of machined G-10 with grooves to offer a reliable grip. A circular indent near the butt allows the user to quickly pivot the knife to a different grip without letting go of the knife. A small seat belt cutter protrudes from the rear and doubles as a glass breaker.

The blade stays securely engaged using a puzzle lock, which is similar to the compression lock Frank designed for Spyderco. The major difference is that this uses an additional mechanism to increase the strength when extra pressure is put toward closing the blade.

At an overall length of 10 inches, the Mantis MT-8 Siko is a knife that’s useful as an EDC or rescue tool and unmatched as a self-defense tool.
