Dragonflies are among the most elegant creatures in existence. They hover and glide with grace, making every move with precision and purpose. The dragonfly is lightweight and quick while fading into the background until it needs to come into focus.
That’s why it’s no surprise the latest Badass Knife of the Week takes its name after the winged insect.
The Spyderco Dragonfly 2 is an efficient and lightweight knife that flies from task to task with aptitude and finesse.
Here is a glowing review from Everyday Commentary (who reviewed the ZDP-189 version):
With a blade length of a mere 2.25 inches, the Dragonfly 2 may look like a small knife but it feels large in the hand, thanks to a forefinger choil and thumb rest that allows you to fill out your palm with the knife.
The blade is made with VG-10 steel and features the classic Spyderco leaf-shaped design accompanied by the trademark Round Hole that makes one-handed opening a cinch. This version comes with a plain edge, but it’s also available in the brand’s SpyderEdge.
This second iteration of the knife was improved upon through Spyderco’s C.Q.I. (Constant Quality Improvement) process that uses feedback and research to make great designs even better.
One of the biggest changes in this second generation Dragonfly is the use of the brand’s patented Bi-Directional Texturing made from fiberglass-reinforced nylon. This allows for a reliable carry no matter what direction you’re pulling or pushing.
Also updated is the tip-up wire clip that can be used on either side of the knife and a screw together handle construction.
See how Spyderco managed to use geometry and angles to optimize every aspect of this small knife for yourself.
