Sharp right out of the box. The sheath is great. Overall it's the best purchase I've ever made and I highly recommend it.

Well I was in the market for a good made in America fixed blade knife when I came upon this one. This knife came dull which is not a problem because you should know how to sharpen a knife anyway. Anyway, I had it with me when I was guiding my girlfriend deer hunting. She ended up getting a nice buck and I got to do all the field dressing. I have owned a lot of knives and cleaned a lot of deer. I always own American knives and try to get ones with lifetime warranties. Well long story shorter, I gutted, skinned, and quartered out her deer with my new okc.... And I never sharpened it once throughout the processing! I was astonished it was still sharp after skinning the buck and to my amazement it was sharp after I quartered him out too! Not as sharp as when I began but still not dull. Plus I split his pelvic bone right after gutting him. I have never used or owed a knife that held an edge like this one. The handle is now a deep earthy red and I leather oiled the sheath. I couldn't be happier. Best knife money I have spent.

Great knife by an American company. Balance, size and utility are first rate. Great overall quality. About the only issue is I wish it was of one piece construction.

I received my knife (Air Force Pilot's Survival) within just a few days after placing my order. Far sooner than anticipated. The knife was exactly what I expected it be. Except for the different sheath, it is substantially the same knife that served me so well during my tours of duty in Vietnam.

Just like opening a present every time I draw. Limited warranty from OKC is very appreciated as well.

This knife was purchased for a grand daughter who is often at my side when I go to the Glades or the mountains of North GA. Before all the anger messages are sent, she is over 18 and in college. She, like me, understand the importance of quality built knifes and equipment. Thanks to KA-BAR and Knife Depot for supplying quality those knives.

This is a classic no frills utility tool! If you want precision fit and finish, this knife is not for you. However, if like me you want a WW2 classic with the character, and good old belt and braces construction of yesterday, that will age nicely as you use it, and become unique to you, then this is a great choice. Do not expect a usable edge right out of the box. I re-ground the edge profile to a long convex edge using grades of wet/dry paper on a hard foam mat. With this customization the knife now has a shaving sharp edge with all the durability a convex grind offers. I have given the knife 5 stars as I knew what I was getting and what I wanted to do with it, and am very happy with the result!

My rating of 5 stars is based on the uses for which I purchased this Air Force survival knife. This is my second time for ordering this knife as I require its features of strength, practical design, and sharpening capabilities. In my view, a good survival knife should be rated more by strength, durability, and potential uses as opposed to large size, appearance, and use as a weapon. I believe a knife is only as good as its design suites its intended purposes. Primarily, I keep this knife in my car in the event I have to break the glass to escape an accident or quickly get to someone who is trapped. The stout blade will support the knife being struck on the pommel for the purpose of breaking glass or chiseling if necessary. I, by far, prefer this knife to those little car rescue hammers being offered on the market today for that very reason. The blade length is long enough for self-protection, but short enough for maneuverability in tight quarters such as a driver's seat or cockpit. I also like the idea of having a saw edge on top of the blade and a sheath with a sharpening stone compartment, which could be essential in a survival situation, plus offering various uses. I compare this knife and sheath to an old WWII army jeep... It isn't the prettiest design around, but when the chips are down, I'll put my life on it.

A SUPERB fixed-blade knife! As an experienced hiker/survivalist, I've been looking for a replacement to what I've been carrying for the past 17 years. The Ontario has a VERY sharp blade and features a handy saw-back for cutting small-diameter branches. It's balanced, has a good weight to it and sports a comfortable leather-wrapped handle. The leather sheath, which includes a sharpening stone, can be worn on a belt, ankle, web-gear, or lashed to a pack. I'm sure you'll be just as happy with it as I am!

Exactly what I wanted. Good for all around hunting and camping or just to have around the house. I used to have this knife years ago and I like the improved sheath. Knife is the same which is why I ordered it.

The 4 is because the factory grind is very bad. That with the coating made it a very poor cutting knife. But that can be improved dramatically. I've had one for years and I never used it much because it was so hard to get even a moderately sharp edge on it. I reground it flat then polished it and it cuts much better now. I also didn't like the round handle so I reshaped that too. Flattened the sides a little and made it thicker in the middle than on ether end. Much better control of the blade than with the original shape. A dual sided finger guard is good for a knife used to stab animals (keeps your hand from sliding on to the blade if you hit something solid like a hip or sternum) but not so good for processing them after they are dead. The guard on the edge side is good when working with wet or bloody hands doing normal cutting. However, the guard on the spine side gets in the way when choking up on the blade and I like to be able to put my thumb on the spine for control sometimes. I removed the finger guard on the spine side of the knife and rounded it flush with the handle and also rounded the edge side. I then filed the 6 sided pommel to a round pommel with one small "bump" on the same side as the edge. Sort of looks like a bird's head/beak. This makes it slightly less handle heavy and the smaller round shape feels better in the hand than the original. I know these are a lot of mods but I wanted to share as this knife has potential. I also modified the sheath. My dog chewed on it some but basically I cut along the two slots for the belt to pass thru and removed a strip on both sides of the knife. Then I riveted a strip of leather on the center remaining strip that runs directly behind the knife folding it over to make a belt loop. I cursed the dog at first but now like it better the way it hangs on the belt.

This knife is nothing spectacular, but it will get the job done. For the price, you can't beat it. It sharpens easily and feels good in the hands.

The blade is solid. I dislike the post tang versus a full tang. The handle is very nice and so is the sheath. Although something in the sheath leaves gold scores along the blade that don't rub out.
