There's no single edged tool that we can think of that can out-chop or out-cut a good Kukri. It's true that the best Kukris, like our LTC and Gurkha models, can be somewhat expensive. While those "thoroughbreds" perform extraordinarily well for the money that they cost, it sometimes seems that what's required is a good, inexpensive, "workhorse" model. Our kukri machetes are those workhorses. They are available in two sizes, one has a thirteen inch blade and the other, our new "Magnum" model has a whopping seventeen inch blade. Both are ready to plow through the toughest chores life can dish out. Each features the distinctive weight-forward balance of our "top-of-the-line" models, and always present their edge on an angle so they're guaranteed to "bite" deep with every stroke. Additionally, they come complete with a sturdy Cordura sheath! They are a solid value, ready for long, hard work.

So I've had this knife for about 2 or 3 years I have done no modifications to it. The handle has a amazing grip on it the blade is very strong and does not bend now to tell you some of the things I've done with it I've cut down trees 5 inches thick I've thrown it into trees now I suck at throwing any knife so I've hit the handle 20 times I have 1 crack in the handle and it still feels good I've abused this knife I'm going to buy 1 more and take care of that 1. I love it with this next 1 I'm going to sharpen the blade I have no complaints

I love this Kukri and Cold Steel. The blade itself is very sturdy and the hand has nice grips. I was able to chop down a small tree with this and it also sticks well when thrown. Extremely satisfied with this product.

Well balanced, effective at cutting limbs, brush etc. Though I've only cut up to 1.5" limbs. Overall a very good bush machete.

This is a great machete! The handle is comfortable and there is enough weight to pack a punch. I bought this to take on the hiking trail as an all purpose tool and it has worked well. The blade was not as sharp as I prefer but a few minutes with a diamond stone and it is now perfect. It is very sharp out of the package, but I prefer razor sharp and this took the edge well.

OK, so I just bought a house. *go me* Its been empty for about a year and suffered heavy landscaping damage from Wind and Ice storms that have ravaged the Louisville, KY area. The Kukri has been INSTRUMENTAL in the cleanup efforts. It out performs most hatchets in cutting ability, its lighter weight, holds its edge better, easier to sharpen, gets into tighter spaces. and best of all its a WORKHORSE. 6" diameter trees don't stand a chance against it. The only negative thing I could say is that you probably want to wear a glove while using, the checkered handle is very durable and unforgiving. I recommend getting an inner tube from a 10 speed bike, and cutting a rubber sleeve to go over the handle for a little better gripping surface that won't cause blisters, and absorb more shock. This is the best camping tool you could ask for!

The kukri machete is everything I need in a pack tool. It can cut, chop, split and dig. It's also a great defense tool. I won't go into the hills without it.

There are no frills but it is functional! It is good steel: I zinged a rock full on and very little damage. It will take a nice edge. I ground off some of the handle on upper aspect of butt as it chafed my palm. It is a good value! Thanks K.D.

Out of the box, this is a fine blade. Put an edge on it, let your wrist action do the work and you'll slice through 1 inch oak branches as if they were straw! Nice!!

It goes great with an emergency back-pack and eliminates the need for a cumbersome ax.

The Kukri,I love it! It took a little getting used to be at home with it in my hand. However the machete is a technique cutting tool and once you learn to use it the right way, it is amazing how sweet it really is. It sharpens very quickly and that is nice for me as I use it for a lot of different things. It is a very fun and usable kukri machete at a very reasonable price. Thank You,Alan R Smith

I purchased a Cold Steel kukri machete and I leave it on my 4 wheeler and I never go into the woods without it. I find it very handy to have especially after the hurricane when I have to clear trails.I can cut down trees very easy that are 4 to 5 inches in width.

I purchased the Cold Steel Kukri Machhete for an all around camping tool. I wanted a tool that would be a shovel for campfire and latrine pit digging and a light axe for chopping tinder for the fire. The Kukri does just that. I found the PVC handle comfortable when chopping and splitting tider. The blade is hardened steel but soft enough not to shatter while chopping branches and light wood. The Kukri is an excellent survial tool while hiking in the wilderness. If I could take only one tool on the trail, the Kukri would be it. Because the Kukri is intimidating, I use it in the widerness but prefer a hand axe and smaller knives in public camp grounds.

Great all around knife to be used on camping trips. I bought a second Kukri since my son will be traveling to Alaska because he needed something more than a pocket knife.

August 26, 2008

This is my first "gurka" style machete and I love it! It came with a mediocre edge on the blade, so I gave it a good edge. I use it in our avocado grove and it's weight makes cutting easy....not that avocado is hard wood, but when dry it's pretty tough and this machete works well. So far it holds an edge well. For a low priced machete it's a good buy!

June 28, 2007

What a great knife! Works well as a full tang light weight survival machete. The only problem I could see with the knife is that Cold Steel places a sticker on the blade, and while removing it removes only a very small portion of the blades baked on finish, this does not affect the quality of the knife.

By Joe H. from Maryland

They put the sticker right on the side of the blade, which could be sharper. It looks cool though.

I used the machete for cutting through brier patches while surveying. I like the fact that it was somewhat smaller than the traditional machete I used before. It was much easier to use in tight spots. I could also make small trees fall with it in nearly the same amount of time as I could with my old machete.

April 17, 2006

Another fine Cold Steel product. Yes indeed the price is reasonable. To get this machete to reach full potential will take a little work on your part. Grab a file and knock the rough off the blade and even out the steel. Cold Steel says it is sharp out of the box, and it is, but you can really get this blade to cut with ease when you spend some time working the edge.

By The A. from washington
September 4, 2005

Of very sturdy construction. The grip is not the most comfortable, being hard plastic, but is not uncomfortable either. The blade could be sharper but would be easily sharpened in half an hour or so. The weight is very good, balance being prejudiced to the front to make swing more forceful. All in all a good machete

This is a utility knife for everyday use in clearing light to medium vegetation. The handle of PVC is durable but required gloves to resist slipping in warm weather.

I bought this knife as a gift for my son-in-law and he says he loves it. Thank you for helping me make someones Christmas a happy one.

The kukri machete provides an interesting yet very functional blade for general utility around the yard. Its PVC handle allows for a comfortable grip while removing unwieldy underbrush. The overall look of the black Cold Steel knife has drawn interest from neighbors. Overall, a fine knife if a bit on the no frills side in terms of construction.

By Mihai F. from Cape Girardeau, MO

You get what you pay for. The knife is an average machete. The blade is not thick enough for the knife to handle the abuse I bought it for. Has a cheap feel to it, but then again, it is cheap. It performs reasonably, although there are several flaws in the blade and handle.

By Chuck S. from Cape Cod, MA
April 29, 2016

This machete arrived about as sharp as a butter knife, and although I've sharpened it repeatedly with various apparatuses, it's still not as sharp as I'd want it to be. Buy something twice as expensive and several times sharper. You'll be happier.

Good shape. Nice and heavy. Dull as the class bully.

August 24, 2005

I purchased a Kukri for my 17 y.o. son, as a gift. I already owned a Cold Steel Kukri, received as gift from my brother. The Kukri rated ONLY 2 STARS because the grip had multiple blemishes. The kukri still functioned fine as far as the blade went.

Junk! The day I got it I threw it away. Cold Steel let me down on this one.
