Making a quality KA-BAR product requires the talent of experienced craftspeople performing dozens of processes with precision and skill. Each knife undergoes specific manufacturing processes to ensure corrosion resistance, strength, edge holding ability, and an out-of-the-box razor sharp cutting edge.
Soon after its introduction in the mid-1920's, the KA-BAR trademark became widely known and respected. There have been many versions of how the KA-BAR name came to be, but all evidence points to a letter received from a fur trapper. This particular fur trapper's testimonial turned out to be the most significant ever received by the company.
He wrote, in very rough English, that his gun had jammed and that he had therefore relied on his knife to kill a wounded bear that was attacking him. In thanking the company for their quality product the trapper described using his knife to kill the bear. All that was legible of his scrawled writing was "k a bar". The company was so honored by this testimonial that they adopted this phrase and used it as their trademark, KA-BAR.

Good weight for heavy chopping. You'll get a workout. Holds an edge.
Love this knife. I was able to trim my apple tree with.
Balanced well, cuts well, carries well, and super grip on the handle. After a thorough honing I have been tackling 3" plus birches regularly. The epoxy coating is a bit rough and makes for a lot of friction. It takes some cutting to wear it off the bevel before it reaches it's optimum slashing potential.
It has great weight distribution! The machete is excellent for cutting small brush and limbs!
It is good quality materials does the job well!
It's a chopper with no pretense at being something else. Don't confuse this with a knife function wise. It feels good in the hand. A hatchet drives nails better than the flat of the blade but it is more forgiving on point of impact when chopping. Keep one in the trunk.
Fantastic product. Quality, Quality, Quality and fast delivery. A+ all the way. I will be buying more from this company.
I like the machete very much. It is a quality knife well made and takes a good edge.
This is an excellent knife! It's very sharp. I am more than pleased. This knife (machete) exceeded my expectations.
It is excellent quality for the price.
This is another example of how much improvement their has been in the KA-BAR brand. It gives added comfort in the purchasing decision.
This is a good blade!
It is a useful knife with excellent balance and grip for medium to low density path clearing and opening up area for group to camp overnight. The blade stays sharp with minimal honing and sheath accepts blade after initial stretching very easily, can be rigged to hang of shoulder with leather or other strapping material or attached to belt.
This was a gift for me to use at work. So far it has proven itself to be a very sturdy, durable knife that does the job I need it to do. The sheath is nice. I do wish it was more of a classic sheath in which the knife would slide right in (without the snaps), but I understand the difficulty that would entail due to the unique curvature of the blade. Overall I am very pleased!
We put this machete through it's paces in the jungle. The blade has some weight to it - means less effort chopping down brush. The blade was well coated and held a good cutting edge, only needing sharpening every other day (unlike others in our crew with Gerber machete's...). The two snap straps on the sheath weren't very practical for carrying a lot of gear.
This is very well made.
This is a great machete if you need something short and beefy. It has an excellent grip and a great blade.
I have used this item to cut through heavy bittersweet, rose, and grape vines with no problems. I also managed to cut down a few 2 inch plus diameter trees with the machete. It did a good job!
I like it (Ka-bar Knife Cutlass Machete/Leather/Cordura Combo sheath) but not in my expectation that it was made in China.I like most made in U.S.
