Making a quality KA-BAR product requires the talent of experienced craftspeople performing dozens of processes with precision and skill. Each knife undergoes specific manufacturing processes to ensure corrosion resistance, strength, edge holding ability, and an out-of-the-box razor sharp cutting edge.

Soon after its introduction in the mid-1920's, the KA-BAR trademark became widely known and respected. There have been many versions of how the KA-BAR name came to be, but all evidence points to a letter received from a fur trapper. This particular fur trapper's testimonial turned out to be the most significant ever received by the company.

He wrote, in very rough English, that his gun had jammed and that he had therefore relied on his knife to kill a wounded bear that was attacking him. In thanking the company for their quality product the trapper described using his knife to kill the bear. All that was legible of his scrawled writing was "k a bar". The company was so honored by this testimonial that they adopted this phrase and used it as their trademark, KA-BAR.

Here in Tokyo where I live, I've paid about USD$115.00 for this blade, but worth every Yen because of its quality and the name KA-BAR, a synonym for the best battle-proven combat/utility knives. I own 2 of these Fighters and brandish them every once in a while when I practice Krav Maga, a full contact fighting system invented by the Israelis, and one of them is always within my reach for any emergency. Like an M1911 .45ACP, these knives have a fine stopping power and with one stab or slash you can kill somebody. They are like twin daughters to me and I treasure them as bona fide tactical/fighting knives. Definitely the sharpest knives ever owned ! They slice papers like butter and the clip-point blade tip is like a needle so it penetrates very well. The enhanced knife tang of the Fighter is also thicker than the legendary USMC combat knife, thus more robust and resistant to abuse if necessary. It is a traditional military-issued knife made out of traditional carbon steel and is susceptible to corrosion, but a simple treatment with mineral oil on regular basis does the trick ! Literally, "you can buy any knife, or you can own a KA-BAR".

I owned an older stainless version of the KA-BAR Fighter. Thankfully, I never did have to fight with it. It served me well opening shipping crates, chopping up sticks for a small fire, and pounding in tent stakes with the metal base of the handle... When I was getting ready to redeploy I sold it to one of my replacements. As I speak, from my living room at home, that KA-BAR Fighter is still in theater!

Loved the knife, didn't care for the sheath. That being said Knife Depot is a great place to shop for knives, and unless I'm looking for a specialty knife, this is where I shop and will continue to shop.

Its a good knife. Sharp as a razor. It's a little heavy, but what do you expect from an 8 inch blade. It is not practical in a knife fight, but definitely intimidating.

It seems like a well made knife to me.
