Over years of military experience Robert Hanna, currently an active duty Navy SEAL, witnessed a recurring theme: open blades are useful and necessary but dangerous to equipment and personnel. His own personal experience with this problem occurred while training where his platoon was deploying inflatable boats and themselves out of a fixed wing aircraft. Being new and the first one to the boat after it landed in the water, he began cutting away the rigging that attached the parachute to the boat with his knife. He punctured the back of the boat and put his squad at a great disadvantage for the rest of the night.
That experience coupled with countless stories of injuries to people and equipment led Rob to invent his patent pending GROOOOVE! He spent months of drafting and testing prototypes. This new innovation allows rope/line to be cut without unsheathing the knife. The Groove sheath is perfect for rescue situations where an open blade can be dangerous. The Groove sheath allows trapped people or animals to be freed from seat belts, rope tangles, or other similar situations with out exposing the trapped to a live blade and possibly causing a more frightening situation.
The new Groove sheath will be introduced on the SEAL Pup and SEAL Knife 2000 as an added feature at no extra cost and integrated into the new SOG Trident (TF-2) folding knife. Feel the Groove in 2004.
I've had mine for almost 20 years. The handle is hard enough to drive nails with the blade is sharp enough to shave with and thick enough to use as a pry bar. Good investment.
I bought one in 1994 when I was in the Marines. I still have it after abusing it for almost 20 years. In fact I paid the same price for it back then and honestly thought they had removed it from their line up. Awesome knife.
This was a gift. The recipient seemed pleased with the product. I was pleased with the overall ordering, purchasing, & shipping.
I gave this knife as a Christmas present. The person I gave it to was very happy. He talked about how heavy and well balanced the knife was and is very excited about bringing it camping this summer.
I love it and it gets the job done. Two thumbs up!
It is excellent construction and weight balance. It has an easy to grip handle and is a very good purchase!
