SOG, a company dedicated to producing award-winning knives since 1986, has arguably perfected the pocket knife with the Vulcan Tanto. Named after the GE M61A1 Gatling Gun, a heavy-artillery weapon used on F-15 fighter jets, the Vulcan is made from San Mai ("Layered" VG-10 and 420J2) Steel and boasts quality craftsmanship.

While the handiwork shines through the satin-finish blade, the strength and reliability of this folder is hidden in the ergonomically contoured handle. Made from glass-reinforced nylon, the handle is not only abrasion and impact resistant but it's also tremendously strong.

The Vulcan features SOG's patented Arc-Lock system, one of the most powerful and trusted locking mechanisms available on the market today. It's —able to withstand more than 1,000 lbs. of pressure!

If a knife's usefulness is dependent on the speed in which it can be deployed, the Vulcan is among the most serviceable. It comes with a blade kick deployment system, a flipper that allows quick and easy one-handed opening in a split second.

With all this craftsmanship and technology already packed into the knife, the double thumb studs and reversible low-carry clip are just icing on the cake.

Sanctioned to develop and purchase their own equipment, SOG created a knife for use in one of the harshest environments in the world. It is in the spirit of this elite group that SOG Specialty Knives was founded.

Totally committed to creating the world's finest specialized knives and tools, SOG became the first knife manufacturer to expand its line to include a broad scope of fixed blades, folding knives and multipurpose tools. Each product is created by Cofounder and Chief Engineer, Spencer Frazer. The knife is well balanced and very appealing to the eye, and blade comes reasonably sharp. The one thing I do no not like about it, is that it is slow to open. A spring assist would be nice.
