You know you've done something right when your design becomes a standard that many other knife companies aim to mimic. The Schrade Old Timer 152OT Sharpfinger, which has become a generic term for knives in this style, is a fixed blade with an iconic upswept blade that makes the knife more than just a skinner.

Its 3.3-inch 7Cr17 high carbon stainless steel blade can easily skin game but also tackle everyday tasks.

The Old Timer Sharpfinger by Schrade has been an indispensable part of every hunting and fishing knife set since most of us were barely twinkles in our fathers' eyes. With its secure grip handle and rust-proof blade, this knife thrives in the tough conditions that hunters and fishermen routinely work in.

A lanyard hole near the butt of the handle gives additional security when using the knife in wet conditions.

Even though the 3.3-inch blade is smaller than some of the other hunting knives, this helped boost the popularity of the Sharpfinger. As large, unwieldy hunting knives fell out of favor, the Sharpfinger proved to be adaptable and multifaceted.

This 152OT uses the designs of the original Old Timer Sharpfinger to bring this classic knife back into the hands of hunters and casual knife users. You'll quickly see why the old hands at the baitshop have been yammering about this knife for years.

The knife also comes with a brown leather sheath that affixes to the belt for easy carry.

I have a Schrade Old Timer Sharpfinger with a stag handle. I have had it about 20 years. For several years I raised rabbits and I always used my sharpfinger for skinning and cleaning them, it always did a great job. It is the perfect made knife for skinning and it stays very sharp. I would highly recommend the sharpfinger to anyone cleaning or skinning animals it is a great knife.

I got a newer series old timer 152 OTBC in 2014 November. My dad bought a friend and I both one. This knife works out awesome for squirrel hunting, and is very easy to resharpen and holds a edge well. I Cannot wait to use it this year again I went and bought that guthook version the 158 OT in March can't wait to try this out and see how it does.

I own four Old Timers and received my first one for Christmas thirty three years ago. I've skinned countless Whitetails, Caribou, Bear, and most recently a Moose. Ever time I use the knife someone asks what it is and comments how well it works when skinning. I finally broke the tip this year while trying to split the pelvic bone on my sons buck, so off to the grinding wheel and sharpening stone. A little misshapen but still my first choice when afield.

I have the Schrade 152OTBC black camo and have not had a chance to use it yet. I can't wait to take it squirrel hunting the next time I go. Mine came with a nylon sheath and I did not like it so I ordered the leather sheath, it should hold up better and longer and take more of a beating than the nylon sheath. I highly recommend this knife.

I can't say enough about the Schrade "Sharpfinger" Fixed-Blade Knife with sheath. I use the knife every time I go camping, hiking, fishing and work in the shop. It is sharp and shaped to fit in my hand comfortably. I feel safe using it because it is firmly made and does not get loose. Wherever I go and whatever I do, I use my knife.

I found my first Sharpfinger knife in 1986 while reading water meters for a utility co. in Va. It felt so good in my hand and took an edge quickly. It seems to hold its edge fairly well also a long as you are not abusing the blade. I went out and got a sheath for it and it is still my favorite 'working' knife. I carry another knife for opening boxes and other such chores and save this one for skinning. I also have a 'Chinese one as a back up. It's OK, but I hope I never lose my first one.

This full tang knife is well balanced and has a wide, meaty grip. The blade is swept curved to a fine point and the top of the blade is wide enough to allow you to put your finger on it to make fine cuts. Its a very handsome knife, the sheath is vey well crafted in genuine leather. I I was very pleased with the quality and appearance as well as the price.

I had looked for over four years to find this knife. I had a knife like this one for over twenty years. Someone broke into my truck and stollen my storage box full of hunting gear. My knife was really the one thing that I missed the most. Thank you Knife Depot, you helped fill a spot that was missing in all of my hunting gear.

I received this same knife as a present about 30 years ago. Since then I have skinned well over 150 deer for myself and others. I have used different friends skinning knives at times but always preferred mine. The length of the blade with the curved sharp point is ideal to me. I recently purchased this same knife for a Christmas present for a friend. He had used his own knife which is a good knife, but has used my knife as well this season on three deer. He was so impressed with my knife I gave him one for Christmas. Needless to say he was pleased and looking forward to his first deer using his new Schrade Sharp finger.

The Schrade Sharpfinger delivered was exactly as advertised. Top quality and at least 30% cheaper than similar knives sold at retail stores. The blade has kept its edge after 10 days of use during my hunting trip. Am considering purchasing other items on your list. Am more than happy to have discovered the Knife Depot.

August 27, 2010

I love this knife...perfect for dressing a deer in the field. My father had one for years and handed it down to me some time ago. Unfortunately, last hunting season I dropped it (tip first) onto my garage floor. I could have sharpened it back down to a point, but I don't want to take that much off the blade. I hope to have the one I just purchased for many years to come!

I purchased this knife for skinning/cleaning and have used it for fleshing hides. It seems to hold a good edge. It has a very nice, heavy duty belt sheath which is not obtrusive and would be ideal for hunting/hiking trips.

My husband has had one like this for years which became "mine" after I used it. He wanted his back and we've searched for a long time to find another. I now have mine and he has his old one back. I love the fit of the knife in my hand and the way it holds an edge. He says it's the best knife he's ever had to field dress a deer with. I'm extremely please with this product.

August 27, 2008

I have numerous Schrade knives. As a matter of fact, I rounded up all the US-made stock knives and a Sharp finger a dealer had when I found out the Schrade plant in the US was closing. This new one is the first Chinese-made one I have seen. It sharpens well and holds a good edge. However, the scabbard is somewhat flimsy in comparison to the old ones. Over-all it is worth the money!

August 14, 2008

I had one of these knives when I was 11 yrs. old and now I'm 44. I wanted my son to have one for fishing and camping so we can have the same kind. I am very please with the quality of the old timer, it's the only knife for me. I like the way the handle and blade is made because the shape stops your hand from sliding onto the blade. It's very safe to use.

I bought my first sharp finger years ago when I was about 12 or 13 years old; I am 52 now. I have never come across another skinning knife that even comes close to it and I have had several. I just bought 2 more sharp fingers: one for me and one for my son-in law. It is the best skinning knife there is,and thank you so much for keeping them alive and well.

My first Sharp finger was a gift and having lost it in Katrina's flood I had to have another. I find it very comfortable in the hand and have used it in the field, on the water and around the home. It's well made, holds a good edge, and I don't mind tuning it up now and then. It is a good knife!

I bought this knife for the sheath I have a Schrade sharpfinger made in the early 80s that's higher quality than this, but for the price this seems like a good knife. I don't yet know how well it holds an edge but my old one holds a edge fabulous for home butchering.

The Imperial Old Timer, Sharp finger, Sure Grip Handle, Leather sheath is a very good skinning knife. The only problem is sharpening back to the original sharp.

By James G. from Thumb Area, MI
January 30, 2012

Nice knife. It has a beefy, sharp blade. I like the way they incorporated the finger guard into the blade. The handle is "sure grip" but it could be a little larger in diameter for better control. The molded leather sheath is very nice looking and looks nice wearing it. The knife is really a 5 star product. I'm giving it a 4 star rating because I prefer a beefier handle.

This knife replaces one just like it that was lost. It is a very handy little knife that will do most field hunting chores easily. I have been carrying this knife for 10 years with the exception of 'lost' time and I replaced it as soon as I found a source.

By Kurt K. from Houston, TX
December 11, 2007

This is my 4th purchase of this knife. Although still a high quality product, extremely sharp and easy to hone to a razors edge. I have noticed the quality of the handle has changed to a lighter, less dense material. This has slightly decreased the fine balance of the original product. This is my preferred field dressing knife, and I have gifted this product to friends and family.

The new Sharpfinger carries the Schrade name but is in fact made in CHINA. The holster is not leather anymore but made of a vinyl like substance. Fine for a skinning knife but definitely not collectible.

By Peter C. from Melbourne , Australia
March 21, 2008

When I get my head around the fact that this "no longer originally manufactured in the USA knife" is now made in China, I will probably appreciate its versatility to various applications, along with its sleek functional design. Very few knives have the balance, the superb grip and the ease of use, that this knife has.

By Tom S. from Victoria, B.C., Canada
March 2, 2008

I would first have to explain that I owned this product as a kid. While the knife itself is very comparable to the original, the sheath is of a much lower quality. I would have preferred to pay a little more or had the option to upgrade to a higher quality sheath.

By John F. from Rice Lake, WI

I like the Sharp finger knife!

By Bobby O. from Nokomis, FL
April 29, 2007

Well, it looks like the old Schrade Old Timer, but it absolutely is not like the original. It's a Chinese copy. It isn't made as well. The handle is crooked, the blade is dull, and the leather of the case is half as thick as it used to be. I have to say that good things should never be copied. The good name of Schrade has been dragged through the mud, with this knife.

By Chris N. from Parkersburg West Virginia
November 17, 2016

GREAT KNIFE BUT YOU MOVED THE MANUFACTURING TO CHINA. I broke the tip off the one I had made in USA and I'm not buying one made in China. Money hungry CEOs.

By David B. from North East, MD
April 23, 2008

To my horror I found that this knife was made in China. Please let Schrade know that I will no longer be purchasing their products. My actual rate for this item is ZERO and it now resides in the local landfill.
