Review by The Captain from Pacific Northwest

This knife is a larger version of my "Sharpfinger" (even larger than the "Sharpfinger XL"). The blade is relatively stout and is heavy enough to handle camping chores, deer/elk skinning with ease. For a 53-year-old design, it has improved since 1964, aging like fine wine. That just goes to show you how a good knife build never gets old.The Chinese 7Cr17MoV Stainless steel isn't the best steel in the world, but it is cost-effective. Properly heat treated, it can reach between 54-57 on the Rockwell hardness scale, keeping an excellent edge that will last for three deer or two elk between sharpenings. The sheath is solid and effective, it holds the knife in position without permitting the edge to be exposed while the knife is carried. I like carrying this knife in the inverted position on my left side. The swiveling strap instantly accommodates this mode. For concealed "city carry" you can't beat that. Believe it or not, I can effectively hide this knife beneath a sports jacket without detection. (If you wear a heavier coat, it can virtually disappear beneath that as well).I like this knife. It does everything it is designed to accomplish, and then some. If you're looking for a bigger skinning knife on a budget without any concern about rust destroying it, look no further It is "better than average" for the price paid. What more can you ask?If you're a big-game hunter on a tight budget, buy it. It should serve you for years to come.

Had the same knife years ago and always loved it. Decided to purchase a new one just for keep sakes and was amazed on its beauty and feel like always. The knife is a classic and one any knife lover should have.

I had one of these in the 70's. It was a great knife and held an edge like you would not believe. I lost it one day deer hunting in 1999, then I found this site and ordered another on and I can not tell the difference between the two, just like I found an old friend.

This is a nice sized field knife and works well for gutting elk and deer. I had another and it was stolen in a break-in. The blade required some time to get sharp, however.
