An American Icon since 1941
Back in 1941, in Pennsylvania, artist and engineer Frederick
Ehrsam of Victor Tool Company saw a need for a single, welldesigned
tool that could clear brush and blaze trails as well as
a machete, and thin, trim, chop and prune. The tool he designed
was the Woodman's Pal. Professionals in forestry, agriculture
and horticulture quickly recognized it as an historic achievement.
The U.S. Military prized the Woodman's Pal as well. Designated
the "LC-14-B", the Woodman's Pal was standard issue from the
early part of WWII through Desert Storm.
Today, the Woodman's Pal continues to be hand-crafted right here
in Pennsylvania, with only the finest American-made raw materials.
And this tool is still praised by forest and land managers, surveyors,
campers, hikers, hunters, soldiers, handymen, scouts, fishermen,
gardeners, and outdoor enthusiasts everywhere.
Purchased for a Christmas present, but have owned one for years, would not be without one as a forester who spends much time as possible.
I have been looking for this machete for years. It is perfect for clearing out those low branches that hinder your walking through your woods. Sure glad that I purchased mine. I will not ever be without one.
I love it! It is made in America! It is classic, I have always wanted one and now I see why they are so handy. It is a good American made tool!
This is a fun tool for managing my kindling. I can't wait to take it into the woods.
For 10 years I have used my Pal to cut down everything from cactus to 10" mesquite trees. It is AMAZING and I definitely do not go outdoors without it. Even a little bit dull it works better than any axe I have ever owned for quick trims and pesky rattlesnakes. I'm giving 3 as gifts.
It is top quality! The WP is very well balanced and it comes with an edge. You get what you pay for!
I gave this to my husband for his birthday, and he was blown away. He'd never seen one before. He actually took it straight outside to try it, as soon as he opened it. He has used it several times in the month that he has had it, and it performs very well. I feel like a really good gift-finder this year! He says the thing he likes best about it, is that it is very versatile. It's great for any job you'd use a machete for, except it's more balanced, and you don't tire as easily. We're both really glad I found it for him.
This is a great tool! It is nice to see a product that is made in the USA and lives up to the advertisement claims.
This is a great product! The web site was easy to use and shipping was quick and accurate.
This Tool is very versatile and we use it for clearing brush. When we go deer hunting we use it as a tool to help field dress a deer. I recommend it highly!
Yes it holds a good strong cutting edge on both the blade and hook. What I do not like is the fact that it slips out of my hand when attempting to cut brier bushes. I planned on putting good old tire tape on the handle, but tried to cut grooves in the handle, which helps a little. I also replaced the chord with rope that acts as something to help pull the hook/blade and does not get caught up in thorns from briers. Is it the best cutting tool for the money? Perhaps, I was just surprised that you have been making them right here in PA for so long and have not addressed these two problems. thanks
Good balance in handling, but not very sharp with cutting branches. The angle of cut needs to be less blunt with a sharper angle. A leather sling would secure swing in cutting also. Overall this is a well made knife.
Works great on stuff up to 2" in diameter, usually 2 - 3 wacks will take care of stuff up to that size. A little difficult to use on small green brush, you must hold the brush and then cut it. Overall a good rugged tool.
I love it. It is a good chopper, a little awkward to get out of the sheath but for the most part and great tool for my kit.
This machete is very well made and heavy enough to do real work. The vine cutting hook is nice too, especially if there are thorns. I would have given it 5 stars, but I had to sharpen it more before it would cut well.
The Woodmans' Pal appears and feels like a quality product. I have not yet had the opportunity to use it so I cannot render an opinion about it's application in the woods!
A quality product from a great online store. Fast shipping even during the holidays. The only drawback to the Woodsman's Pal is the wood handle get slick after a few minutes of use but that is fixed with a good pair of gloves.
I like it except the wooden handle has a smooth grip which may be an issue if your hand is damp or sweaty.
Overall it is a very good product, however after some use the pins holding the wooden handle in place came loose so that the blade "flops" around a bit in the handle.
