Picture yourself stranded in the backcountry with the sun beating down mercilessly on your face after a car crash throws you into the unknown. If you could pick one knife to have by your side, it should be the Schrade Extreme Survival fixed blade knife.

When it comes to surviving, the less that can go wrong means the more that can go right. The Schrade Extreme survival knife excels in this area.

The 12.1-inch overall fixed blade is all strength with no fluff. The 1095 high carbon steel blade has a drop point, which is a great all-purpose blade style for doing essential tasks like hunting and constructing shelters.

As you would want on any survival knife, the Extreme features a full tang to give it extra strength and durability, so it won't break when you need it most. The ergonomic Kraton handle proves its worth after long and repeated uses--meaning your hands won't hate you at the end of the day.

A solid sheath is another thing to look for in a survival knife because a knife is worthless if you're not carrying it on you. The Extreme's ballistic belt sheath comes with a removable storage pouch you can stock with a few survival essentials like waterproof matches.

This is an excellent blade. The weight and durability are exactly what I needed in a field knife. Sharpening is a breeze, and it holds a superb edge. Highly recommended for anyone needing a field knife.

I've been looking for a knife that would serve many functions. I think I've found it. It's beefy and well made. Fits the hand well. I like the handle. Good grip and appears to be replaceable should it become necessary. I would recommend this knife to anyone looking for a do most anything needed blade. Only con in this is I'm not sure about the longevity of the sheath if used heavily. Other than that I'm totally happy with my purchase.

The sheath is very durable and the knife is the greatest I have ever bought. The knife has some weight to it which I think is good and the blade is very thick. Better than anything you will ever buy at Wal-Mart.

I'd never buy a knife with that quality, I'm very happy and will keep buying more.

This knife is not for boys, it's a beast. The only thing heavier duty is my SP80. The price is right the sheath is acceptable. I have modified the sheath to piggyback a very nice Buck. Get this knife. You will be glad you did!

I do not like large field knives. But this knife is excellent! Its initial test was as a corn knife, cutting down corn stalks, it preformed flawlessly and I was able to clear my corn patch and deliver them in short order. Balance and weight are good, I used it to baton wood for the cook stove, and re-wire a 50 amp plug. It came sharp and i have not sharpened it yet. So far it has preformed every task well.

Why Five Stars? - because it's inexpensive and virtually indestructible, opens Warsaw "spam type" ammo cans, batons firewood, brings a spark easily from ferrocerium rod using spine with the epoxy finish intact, even works with flint too bring a decent spark when the epoxy "bark" is knocked off of an area of the knife spine and lastly I would not hesitate to bring it to a knife fight. Grips needed some attention, I like the sheath - I don't know who bought Schrade but they have several "Heavy Hitters" I plan on purchasing - This was at the top of the list and I was not disappointed. Knife Depot get's Five Stars too, fast delivery, decent price - plus I bundled till my shipping was free! Only con is it's relatively heavy, but so is a Tank - which this thing is built like!

Very good knife, just what I expected. The only problem I have is the cost, since I saw it advertised cheaper, but they were out of stock. The knife shipped just 42 miles from where I live but it went through 4 states to reach me.

This knife is a great value. Currently only used on 1 camping trip. Some feather sticks and light batoning (which I usually don't do.) for fire and fashioning a walking stick. Came with a nice edge and sharpened fast. Will be buying one for each of my boys.

Good sturdy knife, shaving sharp out of the box. Fit and finish is why I gave it 4/5 stars. Otherwise the best knife

Amazing knife for the price. Very well built and capable of taking some abuse. Only reason for the 4 stars is that it didn't come very sharp and the sheath is a little cheap.

This knife is great for batoning and light chopping. Knife was pretty good as it came from factory, but I reprofiled the blade edge, removed the black finish and I am in the process of replacing the awful factory sheath. The micarta scales are very nice.
