The Blackbird SK-5 from Ontario Knife Company is a no-nonsense survival knife that eschews the bells and whistles associated with other models for a simple but durable design. The 5-inch blade on the SK-5 is made of premium grade 154CM steel known for its toughness, corrosion resistance and ability to retain an edge.

The blade is 0.13 inches thick and the full tang, which is essential on any good survival knife, extends down into the rounded G-10 handle that offers a comfortable grip. To enable easy carry, the SK-5 also comes with a MOLLE compatible nylon sheath.

one of the poster said that he does not like the "handle", absolutely incorrect. I bought this knife and about to buy a second one. The reason I like this knife its the handle is well design. Here is why: 1. handle is rectangle shape and flat 2. handle has a flat bottom 3. handle has a hole for string attachment. This handle is the ideal shape for converting this knife into a spear by cutting the wood stick on one end half "L-Shape" , now you could fit the L-Shape easily with this knife handle.

This is the second knife Creek Stewart recommends for my kit. I bought this knife, the Becker BK2 and the Timberline Kommer Drop Point Stag Handle knives for my kits. The Becker and Blackbird I'll use for hunting and I'm already using the Timberline as my EDC. Very well made Blackbird and I understand Paul Scheiter designed this one. Very nice can't wait to use it.

A well balanced knife yes simple and light the tan handle was stained from the box. This handle is well fitting to my large hands, it really works well at fine jobs. My complaint is the material on the handle stains when handled and sweating this ruins the whole quality look you expect from a knife at this price. IT ALSO CHANGES THE GRIP. I feel that handles should be replaced the knife should be black in whole anyway. A strong blade and easy handling, I also have same problem with RAT 7 a heavy all around great knife, again the handle just stains to easily and has a nasty patina out of the box I'll rate this at a 4.5.
