Legend has it that Old Timer started in 1958 when the folks in charge of Schrade cutlery Corp decided to offer a knife like the one their grand-dad used to carry -- comfortable, practical, reliable, and tough.

The Old Timer 8OT Senior is the perfect embodiment of the ethos behind the brand's founding.

The classic design of the Senior has been proven through more than a hundred years of farmers and tradesmen using the stockman for tasks ranging from the mundane to the momentous. The three blades --spey, sheepsfoot, and clip point -- may seem outdated but remain as useful in the 21st century as they were in the 19th century.

Made from 7Cr17 high carbon stainless steel, the blades open up via a nail nick and perform just like they should.

One of the best aspects of classic knives is the fact that you can carry them out in the field and then to a black-tie event without thinking twice. That's thanks to the sawcut handles enclosed by nickel silver bolsters and held together with brass pins. It's a look that defies time and place.

With the Old Timer Senior, you can harken back to the days of your great grandfather while starting a new tradition of your own.

I got this knife for my grandson who has been wanting one for a while. I decided on this one because of the reviews and my grandson is really happy with it.

I got my first Schrade 80T knife in early 1960 when I went to work full time. I have had one or more, and used them on the jobs I have had all the time I was working. I am now 73 years old, and this is still my favorite carry knife. I own over 50 pocket knives but this is the one I present to my grandchildren, both sexes. My youngest daughter came over several months ago to see if I had an extra as she needed a knife for camping. She has 7 sons and 2 daughters. I have tried other knives, but this one is just a good go to knife that does the job.

This is simple. I had the exact one for 20+ years until I went through a "check point" in Cleveland Ohio city hall. As soon as I laid it on the tray, a cop grabbed it & tossed it in the waste basket & would not return it. I love it, it is exactly the same one I had. It is as durable as any good pocket knife, holds a very sharp edge & the curve of the 3rd blade serves me well in my work. I know this will last another 20+ years even though I know I'm too old to out last it.

Bought it because I did not want to risk damage to my late father's knife, so I bought a new model of the same knife and I find myself using it more than I imagined. Quality is not a question!

It's a little larger than I expected, but great sharp blades and in the long run probably better than the smaller ones. I have a tendency to lose the small knives. I'm hoping with the increase in size this won't happen. Great knife

My pocket knife is so much a part of me that even my wife says that I seem almost naked without one. After an airline confiscated my knife, I had searched in various local sources and could not find the knife I wanted. Most knives sold now are stainless steel -- which, once the initial edge is lost, are very difficult to sharpen. I found at your website, the knife I wanted in carbon steel -- which can be sharpened. Also, the delivery was prompt and the price, even with shipping and handling, was about the same as what I had paid locally for my previous knife. I'm very well pleased!

My experience was very pleasant. I have a friend whose birthday was 12/5.He had a very old Uncle Henry knife which was also very used. I found a replacement on your site and he was very pleasantly surprised!! I don't know a lot about knives but did know it was "bad luck" to give one without a penny under the blade!! I expect to shop here again.

I have been buying old timers knives for my husband for 36 years. He loses some or breaks some or someone borrows some. This year he asked for another old timer (same size all the time) for Christmas. So I bought one for him and one for all the men in my family-my 5 year old grandson included. That size Old Timer, lasts, fits just right in blue jean pockets, works, and lasts forever.

I bought the old timer for my father for Christmas. He is a die hard fan of Old Timer and Uncle Henry. He loves both knives that I bought for him. They are nice in structure and very sharp bladed knives. I cant wait to see other shapes and styles of your upcoming collection.

December 31, 2006

I have had one of these knives for over 15 years and just recently purchased two for my sons. This is a real knife, not something to clean your fingernails with but a real knife that holds an edge until you try to cut metal with it...and it don't do bad on aluminum or copper.

By Don F. from Bakersfield, CA
November 30, 2006

This is a great knife. I've been carrying a knife of this type for over 50 years. The Schrade has always been my choice because it doesn't rust, keeps a good edge, sharpens nicely, and has a good feel to it. It's a very well made knife and I'll buy another one when I wear this one out.

I have owned one of these knives for over 10 years and it still cuts, sharpens (holds an edge) as good as new. I ordered this one for my youngest son and will probably order more. It is the perfect size for anyone who really needs a knife.

By Thomas M. from Sarasota. Fl
April 2, 2007

Good utility knife. It's like this... Taylor Brands has done a pretty good job reproducing the Schrade knives. The Bolsters seem to be a bit easier to scuff up and the blades seem to be a bit wider at the Bolster end because when closed, they stick up out of the handle farther than the U.S. made ones did. BUT it also tends to feel as though it has a stronger spring which gives it a more "solid" feel as it is opened or closed. I gave it 4 stars because, well, it's just not a USA Schrade but it is a good knife.

By Richard B. from Madison, WI
February 2, 2007

I really like the knife and I'm very satified with this purchase.

January 18, 2009

I owned the same style Schrade pocket knife for 27 years until it was recently lost. I was really disappointed that the product is now made in China as it does not seem of the same quality as my previous "Old Timer".

By David J. from New York
January 9, 2017

The review about the knife touts the history and legacy of Schrade, talking about generations learning from their elders to make the quality products. Fortunately in the specs and buried in the story is the fact that Schrade IS MADE IN CHINA !!!!!! I am from the devastated area that Schrade left behind and will not buy a knife with the made in China tag. Regardless of the Parent company name. I do have Schrades made in the Ellenville, New York and would buy others if made here. Support home grown products PLEASE.

By Linda T. from Drumright, OK
October 28, 2013

It was a gift to a friend to replace an Old Timer she had and lost. The blades are flimsy and if I would have known they are made in China now I never would have bought it and won't be buying anymore until they are made in the United States again.
