Some say the ultimate survival tool simply doesn't exist, that you need a whole host of tools to tackle the various types of tasks you'll encounter in the outdoors. Those people have never seen the Schrade SCHF43.

The SCHF43 (sometimes known as Jessica-X) comes from the mind of Chris Tanner of PreparedMind101 fame. This unique knife is an amalgamation of different styles, from the Bowie knife to the parang. The massive knife boasts a 9-inch coated blade made from 1070 carbon steel.

But the real intrigue comes in the shapely TPE handle, which covers the full tang. The handle design allows you to hold the knife in different positions for different tasks, extending the functionality of the knife. You can choke up on the choil for finer use, grab just below the guard for general purpose cutting, or rest your hand in the hook at the end of the handle for heavy chopping.

The knife comes with a polyester belt sheath with removable shoulder strap. From batoning and chopping to feathering and general use, the Schrade SCHF43 is the ultimate outdoor tool.

One of the best knives I've ever had the pleasure of owning.

This is one badass blade. If you're looking for something for woodcraft or survival this is a one and all package. No need for hatchet or a regular knife because you have it all in this one unique blade. Would highly recommend this blade for anyone.

Excellent anticipated product from new designer Chris Tanner. Good ergonomics for variety of tasks but primarily intended as a robust chopper and camp knife. Easy on the hands, no problems with pinky grip. Sheath could be improved as possible to cut retention strap by accident.

This is a "great" knife! It is kind of like a Kukri. The handle is not bad at all, and I actually like the forward position the best. The blade was wicked sharp out of the box, which was pretty awesome. I'm not even using this for wood, I have "huge" cardboard boxes that I have to cut down and recycle, and I thought this would be fun and great test for the knife.. I don't know how many boxes that I have cut down to size.. but I can say that I have "yet" to resharpen this blade. Awesome!

This knife has been changed from the original spec. It now uses a hollow grind instead of a sabre grind. This makes the tip and edge much more brittle as well as hurting functionality for wood splitting as the edge geometry is no longer effective in these tasks. The designer has addressed this on his on Youtube and performed side by side comparisons with the original design, destroying over a dozen of these new versions in the process.
