Outstanding performance in splitting kindling. Works flawlessly and has perfect grind to break down dry wood. Sharp enough to creat feather sticks on the smaller pieces. Much safer than using a hatchet and saves abuse on your knife. Is e wooden baton to strike.
One might wonder what an old woman who lives in a large city might want with a froe. There's the large street tree in front of my house, which loses branches in a big wind, and the 3 story maple that shades my back yard, but must be trimmed to provide some sun for my lettuce and tomato plants. So I do some wood processing: because I grill my beef steaks, chicken thighs and lamb steaks on my hibachi over a wood fire (no petroleum laced charcoal, thank you). The wood smoke enhances the flavors and I have to fit the wood into my little cast iron hibachi. So...I need a froe, and this one fits the bill.
Nice tool, it lives in my camper and is there when I need it.
What a great tool! I would totally recommend this if you are a camper or if you have a fire place or wood burning stove. It's perfect for breaking down smaller pieces of wood. I use it for our fire pit but I am taking it on a camping trip in June. The price is right also. The sheath is very basic but that is to be expected. If you ever break down wood for fires this is a great tool to have
This is great tool to keep in your vehicle or throw in a pack when going out in the back country. No more worrying about should i or should i not use my primary knife to split up fire wood, This fro is designed to do all the wood splitting so you can keep your knife edge sharp for all your cutting and slicing tasks. It is comfortable in the hand and you can use it for much more than just a wood splitting, feather sticks, draw knife , it is a versatile tool., well worth the price and the quality is excellent.
