Soon after its introduction in the mid-1920's, the KA-BAR trademark became widely known and respected. There have been many versions of how the KA-BAR name came to be, but all evidence points to a letter received from a fur trapper. This particular fur trapper's testimonial turned out to be the most significant ever received by the company.
He wrote, in very rough English, that his gun had jammed and that he had therefore relied on his knife to kill a wounded bear that was attacking him. In thanking the company for their quality product the trapper described using his knife to kill the bear. All that was legible of his scrawled writing was "k a bar". The company was so honored by this testimonial that they adopted this phrase and used it as their trademark, KA-BAR.

William R. from New Germany, nova Scotia, canadaI very much like the Ka-bar knife. Its made of good steel and keeps a great edge. It is just the proper size for what I need it for. I would recommend it to any one that needs a small knife to do the job of a large knife!

Stan K. from Dallas, TXMy typical reply is "Does this knife suit the purpose for why I purchased it?" I bought this knife as a backup knife to my little Case XX Razor Edge fixed blade knife. I happen to like the smaller knives for more intricate tasks of carving detail, cleaning fish, first aid applications, and the general purpose cutting a pocket knife would do, but when the safety of using a fixed blade is preferred to a folding blade. The pommel is usually an excellent feature for additional uses when additional force is needed. I personally prefer the overall quality of the Case XX Razor Edge, which has a sharper edge out of the box and a more serious appeal for duty. I view the Ka-bar, which is a bit larger, as more of a letter opener quality, yet attractive in its own right.
